New School Year, New Healthy Snacks

On July 1, the USDA Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards went into effect for schools across America. The new standards apply to all foods and beverages sold during the school day in schools’ vending machines, stores, snack carts, and a la carte lines, as well as through fundraising.

Over the past few months, we have been talking with school leaders about how they are preparing to meet the new standards and what strategies they’ve used that were successful. We heard from schools all across the country and compiled their stories on our website.

As kids head back to school, make sure you check out our Swap Your Snack inspiration page to learn more about schools leading the way to healthier snacks on the sports field, in the cafeteria, and through healthy fundraisers. Learn more about smart snacking by reviewing our 7 Smart Snack Tips and 10 Smart Ways to Raise Money.

We’d love to hear your school’s ideas for serving healthier snacks at school, too! Share your ideas with us on Twitter using the hashtag #swapyoursnack.
